We believe the Bible to be the greatest love story ever written assuring us of God’s love for all people. We believe that the Bible is God’s inerrant written word inspired by the Holy Spirit as He spoke to men to write.

Fresh Start Church is a non-denominational church emphasizing the power, gifts, and reality of the Holy Spirit as He moves upon people and changes their lives, bringing hope and a new beginning. We also hold to the fact that the gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as signs, wonders & miracles are a reality today and they did NOT fade, die or get cancelled when the last original Apostle died.

We believe…

  • The Scriptures are inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind.

There is only one God. The One God has revealed Himself to us as our Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that is, the One God manifested in and through authentic human life. To see Jesus is to see God. (Deut 6.4; John 14.9; Eph 4.4-6; Col 2.9; 1 Tim 3.16).

  • The gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again so that we who believe in Him can have eternal life in Heaven. We express our belief in the gospel through our obedience to the gospel. We obey it and apply it to our lives by repenting of our sins (death to sin), being baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins (burial) and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit (resurrection).

    This threefold experience is the consistent pattern of conversion in the early church (1 Cor 15.1-4; 2 Thes 1.8; 1 Pet 4.17; Mark 1.15; Acts 15.7; Rom 6.3-4; Acts 2.4, 37-39; 8.9-17; 10.1-48; 19.1-7).

  • Are there ever really any second chances in life? Surprisingly, the answer is yes. The Bible calls it Salvation. Salvation is God’s second chance for every one of us. It’s not only the salvation of our spirit but of the body and soul as well. The Greek word for salvation is “Sozo” and it actually means “saved, delivered, and healed.” Thus, encompassing all three parts of a person’s makeup- body, soul & spirit.

  • Christ’s death on the cross not only provides forgiveness of sin but also healing for sickness and disease. The One who gave you the gift of eternal life is the same One who can heal your body.

We believe that Jesus Christ heals people who are sick. God does not change; He is still willing and able to heal the body, as well as the soul and spirit, in response to faith (Mark 16: 17, 18; James 5:14-16).

  • The baptism in the Holy Spirit provides the believer with an empowering for witness and to live a life pleasing to God. We believe that baptism with the Holy Spirit is a gift as Jesus said it was and an experience that follows salvation.

All believers have God’s Spirit within them. Holy Spirit baptism empowers believers to exalt Jesus, to live lives of holiness, and to be witnesses of God’s saving grace. We believe that those who experience Holy Spirit baptism today will experience it in the same manner that believers experienced it in the early church; in other words, we believe that they will speak in tongues—languages that are not known to them (Acts 1: 5, 8; 2:4).

  • As Christians we are to love God and love others. We are to worship God joyfully and seek to live a life that is pleasing to Him both inwardly and outwardly—in our thoughts, words, and actions. We are empowered to live a life pleasing to God through the Holy Spirit.

We believe that born-again believers should be people who pray and who allow the Holy Spirit to shape their values and behaviors every day; their lives should exemplify love, honesty and sincerity. (Ephesians 4:30-32).

  • We believe in partaking of the bread and the cup of communion in remembrance of the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection. We celebrate an open communion for all believers regardless of church affiliation.

  • As followers of the risen Lord Jesus, we have the assurance of a wonderful hope… a reunion with our saved loved ones and more importantly with our Savior. We call this ‘Our Blessed Hope!'

    A Wake-Up Call

Even though the history of the Christian church is littered with failed predictions of the end of the world, it remains true that Jesus Christ is coming back. “Men of Galilee,” the angel said at Jesus’s departure, “why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into Heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into Heaven” (Acts 1:11).

At His coming He will judge the world:

When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. Before Him will be gathered all the nations, and He will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. (Matt. 25:31–32)

For those who are not ready to meet Christ, that day will come suddenly like a trap:

Watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. (Luke 21:34)

    Birth Pains

Jesus said there would be pointers to His coming—like wars, famines, and earthquakes (Matt. 24:7). He called these signs “birth pains” (Matt. 24:8). The image is of the earth as a woman in labor, trying to give birth to the new world, which Jesus would bring into being at His coming.

You don’t have to be a date setter in order to take seriously what Jesus says. And what He says is unmistakable: “Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. . . .Stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come. . . . And what I say to you, I say to all: Stay awake” (Mark 13:33–37).

  • Reaching Into Society’s Every Need.”

We believe it is imperative as a local church to help the underprivileged and needy and to be the literal hands of Jesus by assisting with material needs.

We want to obey Jesus’ mandate in Matthew 25:35-36.

“For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.”

Fresh Start Church is deeply committed to Hornell, New York and the surrounding region to share the love of God in tangible, real ways. Speaking love and living it should be the same!
